Tracy Stark works in the New York area as an entertainer,
musical director, arranger, pianist/keyboardist, vocalist and songwriter. She
began playing piano at age 3, and had at least 20 years of classical training
throughout her life -- including a degree from Oberlin Conservatory -- but
mostly wrote songs and played pop/rock when she should have been practicing for concerto competitions.
Before moving to New York from San Francisco,
Tracy toured and played her fingers off in the musical jungle of Europe for three years, hitting countries from Norway to Greece, making frequent stops
to refuel in Amsterdam whenever possible.
As a piano player, Tracy backs up a plethora of vocalists of various genres of music, from Broadway and blues singers to rock bands --
sometimes all in the same day. Recently she has been spotted musical
directing shows for the legendary Lesley Gore.
She has appeared in numerous television specials as a
conductor/keyboardist/singer, and most recently on NBC's Today Show, as the Name That Tune girl (originally played by Kathie Lee).
As a songwriter, her critically acclaimed, smash hit show
Movin' On (for which she wrote the songs and arrangements, musical directed and was one of the performers) had a successful run for a year in New York
City in various incarnations.
She recently received an honor award in the Great
American Song contest for her song 'Memory to Wear'. Her song 'Right Where I
Belong' placed in the finals in the Southern Songwriter's Competition, and
'The Only One' won a "very honorable mention" (VERY honorable) in the blues
category of the Songspree contest.
Her song, 'A Million Hearts', which she wrote in the wake of the September 11 tragedy, was featured on the New York Times website.
She's also been featured in Songwriter's Monthly as one of the "Future
Charters". Her music continues to be included in the repertoire of many singers and
shows.
Tracy's first CD, Canvas of Dreams (produced by Ferron), has been described as a "soulful love song to life" "irresistable" and "a
masterpiece in
museum-quality presentation." Tracy's songs also appear on various compilation CDs, such as:
SongsAlive! Sampler V, Acoustic Rainbow Sampler 11, Save the Roos, and the newest
compilation album from Michelle Malone's label, SBS Records.
Currently, Tracy is preparing to go into the studio to record her next CD.
