Lisa Biales
What's not to like?
Lisa grew up in a musical family. Her father played upright bass and her
mother sang and acted in community theater. Lisa's brother, a drummer,
showed her how to play the guitar when she was eleven and Lisa has been
having a love affair with the guitar ever since. The theater bug bit her
too, Lisa started writing plays as a youngster, casting and directing her
classmates in her garage that was turned into a theater for the day. No
matter what play, big finale was always a heartfelt rendition of Moon River.
Since those early days, Lisa has earned a Masters Degree in Theater from
Ohio University, where she honed her acting and play writing skills.
Lisa started her musical career at the age of thirteen. She has done voice
over work and jingles for national corporations, performed for state and
national officials and crooned in the homes of the rich and famous. Lisa
sang demos for Platinum award winning songwriters and recorded with Grammy
award winning film producers. She has directed musical theater, written and
produced musicals for children, had leading roles in theater and appeared on
radio and television. It’s been quite a journey.
In 1991, Lisa met Sarah Goslee Reed in Marietta, Ohio. Both were performing
at a festival and had a chance to get to know each other over lunch and a
glass of wine. That glass of wine was the start of a long tradition for this
renowned duo. Lisa and Sarah joined forces as Prairie Orchid and perform in
schools and libraries, concert halls and festivals, and have recorded nine
albums between the two of them. They are songwriters, mothers, traveling
companions, confidantes and friends. In 2002, Prairie Orchid's "Pocket Full
of Lizards" was awarded Best Album Of The Year, by the Children's Music Web.
“A friend is someone who knows the song of your soul and sings it back to

dept and experience." ~ Dirty Linen
In 2006, Lisa released a second album of original music entitled, "Chasing
Away The Blues" which was produced with Grammy Nominated Celeste Friedman.
Lisa has been referred to as the Norman Rockwell of songwriters, with a
voice that satisfies the soul. She has been likened to “the little sister of
Allison Krauss and Rory Block.” The album is receiving international
attention on the folk and blues scenes. "A taste of soul, and the blues . .
. elements that have ensured true musical art." ~ Champaigne Macier, Bryan
